Green fingered customers celebrated with Maidstone Housing Trust at an awards ceremony for the annual garden competition this week. The competition was judged by previous winners Mr & Mrs Beacock of Shepway.

Prizes totalling £500 were awarded to winners. Individual prizes were awarded for the best small garden, the most eco-friendly garden, the most beautiful garden, the best balcony / hanging baskets and the most family friendly garden.

The competition is open to all Maidstone Housing Trust customers and rewards people who take particular care and pride in their garden.

Judge Antony Beacock said “The quality of entrants was very high. My wife and I found it quite a task to choose the winners, because everyone puts so much love into their plants and gardens. It was wonderful to see the variety of gardens and meet the people who created them”.

Head of Community Development Caroline McBride added “Beautiful gardens make a huge difference to an area. Through their hard work these people have inspired and motivated others, so it’s a pleasure to reward them in this way”.
