Mayor of Maidstone Cllr Denise Joy marked European Neighbours Day on Tuesday 27 May by visiting new homes created by Maidstone Housing Trust.

The visit enabled Maidstone Housing Trust to celebrate the completion of the first homes in Phase 1 of a major £20m regeneration scheme in Coombe Road, Maidstone. Cllr Joy enjoyed afternoon tea with local resident Majorie Clark in her new home, and looked around the newly completed properties including a flat adapted for disabled residents.

All of the houses created meet the Lifetimes Homes Standard, and are rated EcoHomes Very Good. The new streets include ‘Home Zones’, balancing the needs of traffic and pedestrians. New road names include Ramsey Close, Langton Way and Islip Close; the roads are named after previous Archbishops of Canterbury. Historically Archbishops stayed in Maidstone's Archbishops' Palace when travelling between Canterbury and London.

Maidstone Housing Trust’s Director of Regeneration and Asset Management, Chris Blundell, said “We are delighted the first homes are complete and residents have moved in. We’ve worked hard with local people for four years to reach this point and it was great to mark European Neighbours Day by celebrating what we’ve achieved so far and looking forward to the next stage".
