Trust staff and local helpers tidy up Coombe Farm streets

The tidy up team get down to business

Maidstone Housing Trust colleagues have been helping local people tidy up their area. During this half-term week we worked with partners from Kent Police, Tomorrow's People community group, and local residents, to clear litter and debris from streets and front gardens in the Coombe Farm area of Maidstone.

Community Involvement Manager Steve McGlen said "We provided suitable gloves, high viz vests and grabbers to keep everyone safe and clean. In a morning we cleared litter from the road and people's front gardens along Quarry Road, Coombe Road and Brenchley Road. In total we collected about 30 sacks of rubbish, and removed two abandoned sofas".

Kent Police parked their mobile police station at the top of Quarry Road where residents could talk about their concerns. They also had a couple of enquiries about setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

It is hoped the tidy up will help residents feel proud of the area and generate community spirit. Maidstone Housing Trust is building new homes in part of Coombe Farm, and hopes the first homes will be ready to move into in March.

The tidy up team was Lorraine Ticehurst, Tracey Barrett, Rob Hudson and Steve McGlen from Maidstone Housing Trust, Musa Dube and young people from Tomorrow's People (based in the Community Centre, Marsham Street), Caroline Doyle, Family Management Officer, Sgt Ian Jones, PCSOs Maria Piddock and Val Rowson from Kent Police and eight local young people.
