Anti-social behaviour leads to threat of losing home for tenant
A resident in Coombe Road risks losing her home if she breaks agreed rules, following successful legal action by Maidstone Housing Trust.
Maidstone Housing Trust has been successful in securing its first demoted tenancy.
The action follows anti-social behaviour by the tenant including the use of the property to produce and store drugs, playing loud music, allowing her son to use a BB gun from the house and causing graffiti damage to their home.
The Trust has worked with the Police, Social Services and local people to obtain the court order. The order means that the tenant has had her security of tenure reduced losing a number of rights.
To remain in her home, the tenant must keep to agreed rules, including not using the property for drug purposes, not abusing her neighbours or Trust staff, and to keep the property in an acceptable condition. If the tenant causes any further anti-social behaviour the Trust will act promptly to repossess the property.
The Trust’s Community Safety Manager, Lisa Smith said “We do not tolerate anti-social behaviour. By taking this action we hope to change their behaviour and generally improve the local community. Obviously, if anti-social behaviour continues, we will not hesitate to take further action”.
