Tragic Fire at Park Wood

A fire broke out just after midday yesterday in a Maidstone Housing Trust property at Bell Road and tragically, this resulted in the death of the family’s 15 month old baby daughter.

The family, comprising a couple with five children, are staying temporarily with family whilst we arrange permanent accommodation. This is one of a terrace of Hawthorne Leslie construction properties and there is some damage to neighbouring properties which have also been evacuated and the residents re-housed temporarily whilst we assess the extent of damage and remedial works required. All three affected properties are in the Trust’s ownership. A number of the Trust’s staff have been at the incident yesterday and today and will be liaising very closely with the Council and the families affected in respect of their longer-term housing and other needs over the coming days.

Peter Stringer, the Trust’s Chief Executive, said in a statement:
”Our thoughts and best wishes as ever in these circumstances are with the family coming to terms with their tragic loss. We are doing whatever we can to support them and their neighbours through this difficult time”.
