Trust organises event to help with money worries
People in Maidstone could be better off after attending an event hosted by Maidstone Housing Trust. The Trust is organising a Welfare benefits Fayre on Thursday 1 February 2007 at the Beacon Church, Shepway. Visitors will be able to get confidential advice on benefits including Housing Benefit, Disability Living Allowance, Pension Credit, and much more.
Earlier this month Maidstone Citizens Advice Bureau said the amount people in the town owe has risen 150% in two years, with the average debt rocketing from £13,000 to £33,000.
The Trusts Welfare Benefit Advisor Graeme Martin said, “We think there are over 2300 pensioners in the borough who not claim the Council Tax Benefit they are entitled to. With interest rates rising and household bills going up many people are finding it harder to make ends meet. Anyone can come along on Thursday and see what help they can get.
Graeme will be at the event along with representatives from organisations including the Citizens Advice Bureau, the Kent Benefit Partnership, and the Pensions Service.
To raise local awareness of the event, nine Maidstone Housing Trust employees will be taking part in a fun run through the streets of Shepway and Park Wood.
