Resident Involvement sets vision for improvements

A new alliance has been formed to represent more than 60,000 tenants and their families across Kent and Sussex. Representatives from social housing providers across the region gathered in Maidstone this week to work together to raise the voice of tenants.

The Kent and Sussex Resident Involvement Alliance (KASRIA) brought together tenants and housing organisations from as far a field as Dover, Rother, Gravesend and Canterbury. The Alliance works to strengthen the role of tenants in the strategic decision making of landlords.

Representatives signed a constitution to ensure members promote the interests of all residents, share ideas to improve services to residents and best practice, and work together on joint initiatives.

Kaz Macklin, Tenant Participation Officer for Maidstone Housing Trust said, "Signing the constitution is an important step, we are working as a group of tenants and housing providers and have set out our shared vision of how we aim to improve resident involvement across the region."

High Weald Tenant Board Member Ginny Spence is the chair of the Alliance. She said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for us to work together for the benefit of all our tenants. Member groups have lots of ideas and experience of a wide range of issues and opportunities. By coming together we can achieve so much more."

The next meeting of the Alliance will be hosted by Town and Country Housing Group in September. For further information contact Claire Boxall, PR & Communications Officer, Maidstone Housing Trust, on 01622 212553 or claireboxall@maidstonehousing.org.uk
