DEMO DAY - James helps flatten flats
Driving a bulldozer and helping to demolish a block of flats must be the stuff of dreams for many seven-year-olds. But for James Elmore of Coventry House, Park Wood, Maidstone it became a reality when he asked to shadow Maidstone Housing Trust's Chief Executive Peter Stringer for the day as part of an assignment for his Beaver group.
The Molehill Copse pupil, who is a member of the Mote Park Beavers, might have expected to spend the day in meetings when he followed Mr Stringer for the day, but instead found himself driving a bulldozer and helping knock down the Y-block flats on the Park Wood housing estate. Once demolished, Maidstone Housing Trust will replace the Y-blocks with modern homes.
James said: “It was super. I can't wait to tell my friends”
. His mother, Tracey Elmore, said: “This has really made his day. He will never forget the time he shadowed Peter Stringer”
.
His day also included a visit to the housing trust's new offices in Allington, Maidstone, where James was given a tour by Mr Stringer, and presented with a torch which he can use in his Beaver activities.
