Mediation

What is mediation & what does the Maidstone Mediation Service do?

Maidstone Mediation Service offer a free, independent and confidential service. Using mediation in cases where there is a dispute is an effective way of resolving a problem. Maidstone Mediation Service is an external and independent mediation agency that is not biased in any way. Mediation is a very good way of helping two parties understand each other’s point of view, particularly as they will usually remain living as neighbours. Mediation does not apportion blame, but tries to find the middle ground that both parties can agree on, and work from there.

Usually a trained mediator will visit you in your home to discuss your point of view and if you agree, feed the information back to the other party and gain agreement from both about the way forward. Using mediation at an early stage can often prevent the problem escalating. Mediation is usually the best option and is one we actively promote. Even when a problem has been going on for sometime, mediation can still work to help someone realise they are causing a problem and resolving it.

These initial steps may resolve the situation. However, some tenants experience anti-social behaviour that is not caused by their immediate neighbours.

Should you need help in dealing with anti-social behaviour please contact our Community Safety Team, who will see what else can be done to help you resolve the problem.
